About Big H Knives
From a Belt Buckle to a Blade
Big H Knives began long before the first knife was ever made. When I was five, my dad came home from Oregon with a cowboy hat, a leather vest, and a gun belt with a bold "H" on the buckle. I wore it everywhere — and the nickname "Big H" has followed me ever since.
At eleven, master knife maker Scott Kaufman offered to teach me knife making. Years later, every knife is still made by hand with simple equipment and traditional techniques.

Because my knife making skills have been forged over many years, I like to use the phrase "enjoy the journey." I use this phrase to encourage other knife makers to enjoy the process of learning the craft. Sometimes it can be easy to get discouraged with your skills and the mistakes you make.
But knife making is not just about how refined your skills are, about what other people think, or about making money. No, it is a hobby that takes time to build the skills necessary to create quality knives. It is about the stories that happen along the way. It is about getting a little bit better each time. It is about sharing the hobby with others and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Ultimately, everything is to the glory of God.
